or Agrícola Himalaya, the company behind the Hindú and Bitaco brands, it is a source of pride that our products contribute to the health and well-being of consumers. Because of this—and due to their high quality—our teas, herbal blends, and fruit infusions are increasingly sought after both nationally and internationally. This was clearly demonstrated during the pandemic, when consumers prioritized healthy products, a trend that continues to grow. Therefore, as part of our innovation strategy, we focus our efforts on a portfolio that generates new options while respecting essential characteristics: healthfulness, enjoyment, and high quality.
The consumption of our products drives the creation of direct and indirect jobs; generates greater income for everyone involved in our production chain; supports the development of our suppliers and distributors; and gives us the opportunity to expand our social and environmental impact.
SUSTAINABLE GROWTH
The main goal of our growth is to achieve it in alignment with the principles of Sustainability. As such, we work in a balanced way across three key areas: value creation, environmental care, and social well-being—integrating these elements into our daily work and organizational knowledge so that they form part of the sustainability culture that guides us, built on three pillars:
Value Creation: DEVELOPMENT AND PROGRESS
Agrícola Himalaya’s growth strategy is based on the prestige of its two brands, Hindú and Bitaco, each with its own path: increasing national and international market share guides the direction of Hindú, while establishing Bitaco as a highly reputable origin sets the course for this premium brand. For both, we aim to expand our consumer base nationally and internationally through three core actions: diversifying the portfolio to meet consumer needs across all segments; continuously improving quality; and maintaining fair pricing.
Environmental Leadership: UNITED FOR THE PLANET
The company has long been recognized for its environmental commitment. This is demonstrated by the conservation of 100 hectares of forest versus the 77 hectares occupied by Colombia’s only tea plantation—certified organic and dedicated to gourmet tea production—located in Bitaco, a township that stands as a true environmental treasure.
Aware of the global priority of water resources, our sustainability goals drive us toward greater challenges: inspiring the surrounding community with the conviction that the township of Bitaco is a vital water-producing area that currently supplies aqueducts for 18,000 users, and leading by example through an Efficient Water Use and Savings Plan applied at Hacienda Himalaya.
As the region’s main generator of employment, the company actively participates in programs to decontaminate the upper and middle Bitaco River basin, which include actions for forest conservation, native species nurseries, proper solid waste management, and the implementation of renewable energy sources. This includes powering the gourmet tea processing facility in Bitaco with solar energy, reinforcing our commitment to carbon neutrality.
Within our second area of influence, Acopi, we also optimize our processes to achieve clean and sustainable agricultural and industrial production, reduce water and energy use as much as possible, and ensure that our waste and packaging are 100% recyclable.
We are fully aware that climate change will increasingly impact our business and will require a growing number of personal and corporate actions to protect our environment. These actions will be supported by education and research initiatives for adults, children, and young people. Ultimately, our broader goal is to consolidate a sustainability culture that ensures the integrity of sustainable management within Agrícola Himalaya and positively influences our neighboring communities.
Social Responsibility: IMPROVING QUALITY OF LIFE
Focused on our collaborators and their families, as well as the various populations living in the upper and middle Bitaco River basin and other areas where the company operates, we carry out our daily work. Our main lines of action for these community groups relate to projects that support education, promote recreation, culture and sports, encourage participatory democracy, and stimulate entrepreneurship—because we believe these are the foundations that open doors to personal empowerment.
A COMMON PURPOSE
These three pillars lead us toward a shared goal: building a better future for people and for the small piece of planet we are entrusted to enjoy, develop, and protect—positively transforming our areas of influence and the quality of life of their inhabitants. The three entities that make up Agrícola Himalaya—the company, its foundation, and its employee fund—work together toward this purpose.
